How does precision hardware machining achieve a tight machining tolerance range?

by:Jingte     2022-09-30

Before the precision metal processing, our engineers and designers participated in the review of the drawings together. The dimensions of the machined parts on the drawing were verified and functionality was double and triple checked. Keep communicating with customers about processing needs. The main purpose of making these preparations is to ensure that precision hardware processing achieves strict processing tolerances.

Precision hardware machining calibrates equipment, and machine maintenance is critical to achieving tight machining tolerances. Although CNC milling machines are designed with minimal deflection, they can change over time. It is best to contact the manufacturer every year to service and calibrate the machine. They can use specialized tools such as interferometers and laser alignment systems to ensure the machine is in precise condition.

Preheating equipment for precision hardware machining, preheating procedures may be standard for any milling operation, but these procedures are primarily used to ensure lubrication and bearing preheating. High precision operations should include more aggressive routines to warm up all internals. This exercise will minimize any dimensional changes that occur when the machine reaches operating temperature.

Maintain the thermal stability of precision hardware processing, which is different from preheating. While reaching operating temperature is critical, ambient temperature stabilization is also critical. Workshop temperatures may fluctuate throughout the day, or a particular machine may be near a vent, window, or sunny location. All of these lead to dimensional changes in the workpiece or machine. Don't forget to stabilize the temperature of the material. If it is stored outside or in a refrigerator, it should be stabilized at ambient temperature near the machine before starting.

Precision hardware machining tool selection and calibration, the correct tool is necessary to achieve tight tolerances. Consider using a fillet tool for roughing to reduce tool wear and speed up machining. Then finish with a sharp square tool. The tool should have the maximum number of grooves allowed. For holes, reamers have better accuracy than drills and leave a fine polished surface.
